Most copy writing work these days tends to go overseas. Outsourcing is great, when the product or service you want rendered isn’t reliant on the English language… The people who can afford to produce copy writing the cheapest are rarely the people who can do it well. The global economy can be confusing to navigate these days, but a general rule of thumb is that, while plastics, toys, and animation are all great to outsource, anything that requires proficiency with the language should be kept domestic.
If the English language is the bread and butter of your business, why put that in the hands of a writer who doesn’t know the language very well? It’s all about earning trust in your customers. The truth is that many non-native English SEO companies actually use translation programs like Babelfish to produce English work. Yes, many of these companies don’t even hire English speaking writers at all, much less native English speakers. This is where “Spam-speak” comes from. If you’ve ever received an email that made absolutely no sense when you tried to read it, this is why.
Now, this sort of writing is only at the very lowest bottom dollar range of the business. But they are out there. If you want to pay a tenth of a cent a word, that’s what you’re going to end up with. Most foreign SEO companies don’t go quite that far, but the point remains that, if you want to get the best quality for your dollar, you’ll need to spend more than a tenth of a cent per word. This is true in all realms of business, but especially SEO: Spending more doesn’t guarantee high quality, but spending next to nothing guarantees low quality.
You don’t need to spend a fortune to get good copy. Truth is, American, Canadian and UK SEO companies have had to lower their rates in order to stay competitive. So today, good copy writing can be attained for about half a penny more than bad copy writing. That’s not a difficult choice.
